St. Joseph Named 2009 Top InnovatorThe Emergency Department at St. Joseph won the 2009 Top Innovator of the Year Award from The Daily Record for success in increasing ER efficiency and significantly cutting wait times.
Overall treatment time in the Emergency Department decreased by 25%. And treatment for chest pain patients from time of arrival to an EKG was improved by 50%.
The entire ER has been re-engineered and new protocols have been put in place. A team of physicians, nurses, technicians and staff applied specialized process management techniques to improve every aspect of efficiency and quality care delivery.
“We are proud to receive this honor, and most important to deliver quality care to every patient — even faster.” — Durenda Juergensen, R.N., Assistant Vice President of Nursing, St. Joseph Medical Center.
Patients Would Recommend St. Joseph
Cutting wait times and improving the patient experience is producing measurable results. In our most recent survey done by HealthStream, 80% of patients said that they would recommend the St. Joseph ER to a friend. This far exceeds comparative scores by other local and national hospitals measured. In fact, it puts St. Joseph in the 96th percentile of all hospitals surveyed.
To our friends and neighbors in the community who know us, these kinds of results come as no surprise. The team at the St. Joseph ER have regularly earned high marks in overall performance. Over the past several years, our patient satisfaction scores have consistently been in the highest percentiles.
